The Drink Me Potion is a vital tonic that appears in American McGee's Alice and Alice: Madness Returns. A special liquid that appears in Wonderland, when consumed the potion will make the drinker shrink in size. In Madness Returns, it also allows them to attain the ability Shrink Sense. It is the opposite to the Eat Me Cake, a pastry that makes people grow in size.

Origin Edit

In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Alice Liddell finds a couple of bottles of potion in Wonderland, with a label marked "Drink Me" tied around their necks. She first found one in a hallway of doors, and drinks from it to help her get through a tiny door which lead into the Queen of Hearts's garden. She found the second bottle in the White Rabbit's house, but this time she grow instead of shrunk. It's unknown why the drink has two different effects, but the same happens with the Eat Me Cake in the same story.

Usages Edit

American McGee's AliceEdit

In Alice, Alice needed to create a Drink Me Potion in order to become small enough to follow the Rabbit into the Vale of Tears. In the Fortress of Doors, she first collected the sweet ingredients - mushrooms, poppies, sugar and spice - and with the help of the Elder Gnome, they used a condenser to make the potion give its shrinking properties. After drinking it and shrinking, Alice could go on with her journey.

Alice: Madness Returns Edit

In Madness Returns, soon after Alice returns to Wonderland via the Vale of Tears, she takes a quick bathe in small lake of the potion. At first, Alice is anxious to reach such small sizes, but the Cheshire Cat reassures her that she may now shrink to see things that were nearly invisible to her in her human size.

Throughout the game, Alice can shrink at will in order to see hidden paths and fit through keyholes, but she will always return to her normal size. It's possible that because she didn't consume the potion, but rather absorbed it through her skin, the toxin doesn't fully take over her body and is easier to control.

She also finds a fountain of clear liquid marked "Drink Me," while she was getting into the center of Queensland as a giant. She drinks from the fountain to return to her normal size.
