Boojums are flying enemies known for their loud screeches. They usually appear in large numbers and can push Alice with their screams.
History[]
American Mcgee's Alice[]
Alice encountered Boojums in the Fortress of Doors,[1] and appeared in a larger number inside the Skool.[2][3]
Appearance[]
The Boojums are dressed in robes adorned with bright red details. They possess piercing yellow eyes and their skin is grayish brown, combined with their emaciated physique they appear almost skeletal.
In a certain idle animation they are also shown to have detachable heads.
Attacks[]
- Death Scream - The Boojum screams a horrible screech of death that slightly damages Alice, but throws her in unpredictable directions and blows her off her feet.
Tactics[]

They fly around Alice for a while, making them a hard target to hit. Once they hone in on Alice and hunch back a little bit, they make their signature scream, which harms the player. They appear to be wearing holy vestibules that have been tainted with evil.
Many Boojums can prove a bit of an annoyance rather than a threat and are easily taken care of with Alice's Playing Cards or Ice Wand. Boojums are one of two enemies that can be directly mentioned as a clue from the Cheshire Cat's quote: "That savage shriek is the mere tip of the iceberg that is the Boojum's repulsive personality."
In the later game such as Queen of Hearts Land when Alice has amassed a more powerful selection of weapons, Boojums become a reliable source of Meta-Essence as they are weak enough by that point in the game to be taken down relatively easily while still dropping small hearts when slain.
Trivia[]
- They are possibly inspired by a type of dangerous Snark in the poem The Hunting of the Snark by Lewis Carroll.
- They are also similar to banshees, which American McGee has admitted to be a possible inspiration.
- The Boojum is one of American McGee's favorite characters in American McGee's Alice. The other being the Jabberwock.[4]
- Stationary Boojums in a room can be detected by occasional ambient shrieks that they make(not the ones in attack). This could be useful in avoiding surprises, as it's best for the player to be aware of their presence first.
