The Hammer was an unreleased weapon from Alice: Madness Returns which was intended to be equipped by Alice throughout her journey in Wonderland. It was one of several weapon concepts based upon tarot and took the color of orange when equipped. Initially, these weapons were planned to make an appearance in-game as they had models and animations (which now cannot be found in the game files). They were cut, but shown in the beta trailer, which sparked a lot of controversy.
The Hammer originally had two primary attacks which were depicted in The Art of Alice: Madness Returns - one ranged attack and another melee. Similar to the current use of the Hobby Horse, Alice could smash the Hammer down upon her enemy and crush them, however, if Alice couldn't reach the enemy closely, a projectile could be launched in a similar fashion to the Teapot Cannon from the base of the head.
The Hammer was a fire-blazed explosion of orange and brown metals both rusted and heated. It sent massive explosions and bursts of fire when used. It was smothered in gauges, buttons, and dials, indicating it could have a relation to the Hatter's Domain.
When equipped, the Hammer turned Alice's Classic blue ensemble to an orange-smothered frock - reflecting the lava-like explosions which erupt from the weapon. This was due to the fact that Alice's weapons were originally based upon tarot, and her dresses would change color when a certain weapon was equipped.
- Although the Hammer was entirely unused in-game, it had a similar appearance to the final model of the Carpenter's hammer.
