  • Alright, so I wanted to ask everyone's opinion about the importance of uploading images solely for user pages. As I have seen most of them are either not about the wiki at all or some just uploaded and immediately abandoned (See Special:UnusedFiles, not including images for wiki use). There are also uploaded images that are similar to the images used in articles but with terrible quality.

I brought this up to include in the Manual of Style regarding the uploading of images. Other than uploading images solely for article use, some of the things I had in mind are:

    • a specific size for usual landscape-style images
    • image name and format

For the landscape-style images like screenshots, they can either be 444x250px or 333x250px. File format should be .png always since it's the best file format in terms of quality and each image should be properly named.

Rather than for example, AMR 10-21-13 or some other file name that doesn't distinguish one file from the other, I propose that we name the images according to what it is about.

For example, the image is about Mad Hatter's body getting assembled, the file name would literally be Mad Hatter's body getting assembled. It can be a phrase or anything else, as long as it describes the image itself.

That's about it, I suppose. Anyone can bring up another idea. Everyone's reactions, questions, thoughts, and suggestions are welcome.

    • The problem is, when uploading screenshots in bulk or through articles it is not possible to rename them. Unlike other wikis, no one is assigned to take care of imagery unless you would like to be our image section manager?

Also, I don't feel people should upload personal images here unless it is for their userpage and there should be a cap on how many images should be uploaded that are not Alice related per user.

        Loading editor
    • I'm saying that after taking a screenshot and/or resizing them, that screenshot should have been renamed before uploading. I don't mind being the image section manager, but I'll be bothering people to license and put an origin to the images they uploaded.

I'd prefer people not upload images solely for userpages at all, since the wiki has a lot of images to chose from, it should suffice. However, they can still use the images they want to put in their userpages not in the wiki via hotlinking. This is where the cap should go, hotlinked images should only be a maximum of 3. It would not go farther than that as an admin would have to ask the user which images they want to keep and which images they want to remove. Otherwise, the admin would be removing the excess images.

    • Screenshots can be difficult to rename, especially if taken in bulk. It could be quick, but not all could be used. And it would be absolutely fine to bother people about origins and liscenses if you feel the need.

Good idea for the hotlinking. I was thinking of suggesting it myself but I wasn't sure if the wikia css supported that.

    • As far as I know, Wikia.css isn't needed for hotlinking. Also, I tested it and it seems fine.

      How do you mean by:

I can most likely handle resizing and renaming. As long as the image has a description, it should be fine.

    • As in, if someone takes many screenshots in a period of time they may not use all of them on the wiki or have time to rename all of them.

        Loading editor
    • The renaming part is only for the ones that is going to be used in the wiki. As I've said, I can handle the renaming parts if the images have a description written in their summary.

    • Oh, it would also be best if the images we put are not watermarked. Because:

      • it clashes with the image
      • copyright can be a problem, as their owners could ask for them to be taken down
        Loading editor
    • Some imagery is too difficult to not get watermarked, and of course, it is really ugly.

Feel free to remove watermarked images, but please make sure that they aren't a main imagery to any wiki page!

Also, do you think it would be possible to replace character images with png vectors like the ones on the Alice Liddell and Cheshire Cat page? I'll do all of the editing for that, but if you agree with that, what type of images should we use? 2D, 3D models...?

    • And if you want, I'll take care of all of videos? I started cleaning that up a LONG time ago and never 100% finished it.

Ugh, yeah, some qualities are bad. I try to find some images that are close to the ones watermarked or sufficient enough. But if it can't be helped, it has to be taken down and another image will replace it.

Sure, I guess. It would be best if it's the same as the ones in Alice and Cheshire. Although, once it's ready, I'll be putting infoboxes, and the galleries would be gone. Since a link to a pages' image category would replace it.

Sure, and you don't have to worry about the redirects too.

    • If you can't find better quality of AMA images, ask me and I'll go in-game and get a similar image just in case. Just put the image links on my ask page, I'll look through them, take note, and go in-game.

    • Alright. Problem is, it's not the AMA ones. *sigh*

You can take images with out Alice herself in it, yes? There are already some like the AMA Queensland image needed replacing. I'll see if I can find more.

        Loading editor
    • I know. I'd totally do AMR if I could but the problem is that I don't have AMR's PC edition :/ A lot of old AMA imagery is watermarked, though, so that's why I suggested.

Absolutely. I can do it with first person perspective and no clips. What needs to be taken?

    • You would need a page for images needing replacement :P

      Like User:Ghostdoe/Image replace ;)

If it's a message wall, it'd be long.

    • If you want, you can create a replacement page or category which I'll review when I have the time (I have three days until summer, so things will get done then for sure)!

        Loading editor
    • Done :) you can use {{done}} beside the file link if it's already replaced, and also include the name of the new image.

        Loading editor
    • Where can I find the replacement page? It won't come up when I look for it.

    • I'm not going to lie, I just searched for half an our and can't find the area in the first image. It's ascension I think, but I just can't find the tunnel. I found similar areas, but not that.

    • I haven't played AMA, to be honest. So I can't help ._. But any other image just as long as it is AMA Queensland would be okay. :)

        Loading editor
    • I looked it up. Turns out it was totally unused content.
