  • In line with AO's successful funding and expansion of some pages, I propose adding icons for various pages. There are separate icons for dresses, voice actors, personnel, real-world pages, and two of the three series itself. Additionally, protected pages and walkthroughs would receive icons as well.

The icons are placed on the line under the title of the article. The process itself is not tedious, only the addition of the icons used must be done and an update on a template page which lists all the icons is needed.

    Thoughts, violent reactions, and etc.?

    • I've actually been wanting to put those up for awhile now. Considering how drastically the series has expanded (now having three parts to the series) I think it's actually required.

However, you're suggesting icons for individual categories, which I don't extremely like the idea of. I'd prefer the one's that only mark what game they're a part of like on the Silent Hill wiki or Bioshock Wiki.

      http://www.silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Harry_Mason

Unless I'm being an idiot and that's not the icons you're thinking of (I have a gut feeling I'm wrong).

Ugg, I said I was going to leave but I'm just totally being a fly right now

    • I looked at Sharon's page in SH and finally understood your era icons. (Lul) But no, I don't agree with only the "era" icons existing only. Real-world pages like Shy the Sun, EA, etc should have an icon, as well as the personnel and VAs. Of course the three - actually two at the moment - series have their own.

Dress falls under the three series, and walkthroughs fall under real-world now that I think about it. Protected pages should have icons per various protection levels (i.e. fully protected - temporary or permanent -, semi-protected, probably even move protected).

Oh, Wonderlanders and Londoners should have one as well. That about sums up the needed icons - I think, but if there's any suggestions, suggest away!

And I want to find a use for this, Test. I find it pretty neat when I was looking at the AMR artbook. And the protection levels would the the four upgrades of a weapon in AMR.

Ugg, I said I was going to leave but I'm just totally being a fly right now

Hah! I tried to do that. I managed for a week before coming back and also back to doing my job again. What do I expect with answers wikis, christ, it got swamped with... not-so-bright questions. Horrible experience.

I'm actually expecting for you to edit once in a while ;) You know it calls to you. Heed that call. Heed it!

    • Well, it could look nice but it could also look a bit cluttered. Any ideas on how to make them look consistant and neat? They'd all need to be similar sizes for a start.

Also, I have quite a lot of cut-outs from the art book like the one's on the front page I got from Omri Koresh. I've asked him before and he has stated we're allowed to use them on the wiki.

Also, they would need to be titled correctly. Not everyone outside of Wonderland was a Londoner, we still have her family and whoever knew her in Oxford...possibly even the people of Paris if American goes through with what he was wanting for Otherlands.

So many loose ties for such a simple idea.

        Loading editor
    • I did mention not to worry about the size, it's all handled and fixed. The images to be used is only the needed thing.

Do you have images from those cut-outs? We still have to credit him as author. If his images get uploaded.

Oh, I thought non-Londoners have their own cat. Mm, we have to list non-Londoners and their similarities with the location will be their icon.

      • Area icons: Wonderland, London, [discussed location]
      • Game: AMA, AMR, [tba: AO]
      • Real world: Real world, Personnel, VAs

      Did I miss anything?

Of course, AO wouldn't be added at the moment, unless we have complete info.

    • Well, it's not technically his work but he did cut it out, but here anyway:

      http://fav.me/d4ietty

We'd also need icons for items and stuff, but we do have some on the front page we could use.

Ooh... Awkward. We only have to put the origin instead then.

I was thinking about that too. But then they're all under AMR and Wonderland so not sure about it yet.

I'll cat the icons in the main page to Icon images if I hadn't yet and they're good to go.

Still bummed I can't find a use for Test.png. What do you think?

Protection icons... the level 4 upgrade goes to the fully protected... DLC weapons or probably Hysteria weapons go to the temporary ones.

    • I don't think it matters whether or not the icons come under several things as long as they all show one meaning.

    • The icons:

      • Area icons
        • Wonderland: Wonderland icon
        • London: London icon
        • [discussed location]:
      • Game
        • AMA: AMA icon
        • AMR: AMR icon
        • [tba: AO]
      • Real world
        • Real world: Real-world
        • Personnel:
        • VAs: Actor icon
      • Wiki-use (Protected pages):
        • Fully protected (infinite): Hobby Unicorn icon
        • Fully protected (temporary): Black Hobby Horse icon
        • Semi-protected (new and unregistered users are not allowed to edit and move): Red Hobby Horse icon
        • Move protected (infinite): Original Hobby Horse icon

    • It would be lovely if all the icons are Alice-based. Suggestions are up for each icon.

      • Protected pages: is a weapon from AMR, which weapon should it be?
      • Move protected pages has a question mark. When I wasn't an admin yet, I know I saw a page that can't be moved. Not sure which, but it only applies to confirmed pages that doesn't need to be renamed.

I suggest Hobby Horse for the protected one 'cuz badass... and the unicorn.

        Loading editor
    • I agree with the Hobby Horse one. I say we just use concept art generally from the art book (I can make some cut-outs if you'd like anything as I've got scans of the book) for the icons other than the games, which would be the logos.

For protected pages, depending on the level of protection we'll have a different level of horse.

      • Wooden Horse = Free for all to edit
      • Red Horse = Members only
      • Black Horse = Locked until a certain period of time
      • Fabulous Silver Unicorn = Locked forever.

So the icons aren't too small we can just cut off the sticks and only use the heads if it saves space.

For London, I can cut the picture of the people from page 24 of the art book:

      http://oi41.tinypic.com/29ps2lg.jpg

For Wonderland, how about one of these lovely little snails or a bit of the trees?

      http://oi42.tinypic.com/27x1aiv.jpg

Also, for articles that need a clean-up, we could do a similar thing to the protection, but use the Alice statue as an indication? Broken meaning it really needs a clean-up, blood meaning it needs more information, dry meaning it needs a bit more and water flowing meaning it is a good example and should be followed?:

Yes. I also have the scans too.

No protection level set = no need for an icon. The first level of HH would be going to move protect then. Other than that I agree with the rest.

Treeeees. Yep yep. For London I'm not so sure. For easier work we can use the whole frame... lol. But I like the Victorian map we can add the frames of the picture from page 24 or the next page of the London chapter.

Oh damn it, I suppose the location map for London locations go there too... fffff...

Also, for articles that need a clean-up, we could do a similar thing to the protection, but use the Alice statue as an indication? They don't need icons. But the image in the notice template can be changed. Although, we do need a corresponding quote to the broken Alice statue. The cut-outs of Omri Koresh has the broken statue, so that part is solved :)

    • The thing is it may be to small to be able to see clearly with the London map.

I actually think that they would look nicer than notices, but I'm not really sure. Can you make a live version of the templates so we know the sizes and how they would look? You can experiment with the Alice Liddell page if need be.

Yeah, unfortunately. Btw, do you know the location of gaol in AMR?

Which template? Clean up template or the icon? You can see the icons in one protected achievement image. (Badge files)

    • Just generally I think having clean-up and protection together as little icons rather than notices would look a lot nicer, and then maybe having smaller notices throughout the article on areas of the article that need improved (if not, the entire article).

The gaol.....well, it can't be too far from Radcliffe's home if that's the closet and safest place people took her. They also know of her affliction with Bumby, so I assume it is stuck around or inbetween Radcliffe's area and Houndsditch.

    • Protection is already an icon. Although, clean up will remain as a notice. Alice's article has a notice, due to the refs in-game.

For easier work you can have the ref name as acronyms :) If the succeeding paragraphs are from the same level, you will place the refs at the last paragraph it's applicable to. For example: paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 are from Vale of Tears, you put the ref at paragraph 3. Refs are always after the punctuations, not before.

If you have the first ref, you can call it back with <ref name=VoT/>. For example, you used the full ref (which is: <ref name= VoT >{{cite video game |title=American McGee's Alice |developer=Rogue Entertainment |publisher=[[Electronic Arts]] |date=2000-10-06 |scene= Pool of Tears |level= Vale of Tears }}</ref>) in paragraph 3. Paragraph 6 is also from VoT, but paragraphs 4 and 5 aren't. So paragraphs 4 and 5 contain another ref. But paragraph six doesn't require the full ref, so you just use <ref name=VoT/>. Do you get it?

      There's a central hub in the London map, gonna assume it's Threadneedle Street since the market is there. Gotta remember the direction of Radcliffe's house, gaol is a lost cause if we don't have an exact direction ;-;

      • Wonderland icon: Cheshire's head in Omni Koresh's cut-outs
      • Voice actors: The Oyster Starlets (I... don't know. o_o)

Some interesting icons but can't find a use for: the clock in Hatter's Domain with the symbol of mercury on the center, the "poster" fishes for Totentanz, one of the various ideas for AMR logo, Alice's appearance in Oriental Scrolls, Alice statue in Vale of Tears (not crying black sludge).

    • I agree to this wholeheartedly and on another note I sure hope that American Mcgee will be able to get enough people to back the possible third installment of the series as well as a movie!

Besides who wouldn't want a third game and a movie? After all... We're All Mad Here!

    • The Kickstarter funding ended successfully already awhile back. The game is totally undecided but American says he is still trying.
